Ollie’s Bargain Outlet in Douglasville officially opened on Wednesday.

The store, located next to Toys “R” Us on Chapel Hill Road, sells household items, electronics, toys, and clothes for an advertised low price. The store was packed Wednesday, which in large part was due to the celebrity guest in attendance. Reigning NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year and Dawsonville, Georgia native Chase Elliott signed autographs and took pictures with 250 fans in the store.

“Douglasville isn’t my hometown, but definitely my home state and not far from home," Elliott said. "It was a quick trip down here this morning, which was nice. This was my first event with Ollie’s actually and I’ve been really impressed. This is as organized and well-planned of an event that I’ve ever done. So, I’m just happy to be here and I appreciate them having me."

The 21-year-old NASCAR star is able to live in his hometown while his team, Hendrick Motorsports, is based in Charlotte, North Carolina because he travels via helicopter. Elliott said he’s been flying for a few years now and he enjoys the commuting.

Some of his fans, however, traveled hours for the event via car, including Nathan Forbes. Forbes lives in Huntsville, Alabama. He drove four hours to Douglasville and started waiting in line at 3 a.m. to meet Elliott.

“It’s a great store,” Forbes said of Ollie’s. “I enjoy that they have drivers come so they can be with the fans.”

Other Ollie’s locations have hosted other driving stars like Kevin Harvick and Kasey Kahne in the past.

Douglasville resident Catherine Massey looks forward to having the option of Ollie’s in the city.

“I’m excited. We like competition, we like new stores. So we have new places to shop. Douglasville has everything and is getting more,” Massey said.

She also shared Forbes’ excitement to meet Elliott.

“I can’t believe it. I started following Chase this past year after Tony Stewart retired, and I’m so excited I get to see him in person,” she said.

Ollie’s is located at 9365 The Landing Drive, which is the former Circuit City building. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. There are four other Ollie’s stores in the metro Atlanta area, including Snellville, Canton, Newnan, and Cartersville locations.
