Dashing tribute to Dr. George Harkins

The first “Dash for Dr. George” 5K and Fun Run were held Saturday at Clinton Nature Preserve. The race, which organizer Dr. Erin Harkins Silliman hopes to make an annual event, was a success despite soggy weather. Runners and walkers from youngsters to seasoned veterans turned out to remember Dr. George Harkins, a longtime local pediatrician who died from esophageal cancer last year. Proceeds from the “Dash” will benefit the Esophageal Cancer Education Foundation.
