A pair of golden arches have popped up downtown on both sides of the burger joint facade being constructed as part of the set for “The Founder,” a movie starring Michael Keaton, which will film in Douglasville this summer.
“It’s an old style McDonald’s, like a 1950s style,” said Joe, a construction worker who asked to remain anonymous because he was sworn to secrecy by Speedee Productions, Inc. “This one is (in) Arizona.”
The production company started building the building’s shell in a parking lot beside the old Douglasville Police Department earlier this month and will continue to occupy the space through July 17.
The parking lot will be repaved and several yards of dirt will be brought on set, Joe said.
“There’s seven changeovers to it,” Joe said of the set. “They can make it look like different locations in different times.”
The production company will also use the Old Courthouse from June 15 through June 24.
Keaton will play the role of McDonald’s mogul Ray Kroc under direction of John Lee Hancock.
