As part of the Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival Embellishment Contest, Keep Douglasville Beautiful is asking all residents and businesses to decorate their mailboxes, lampposts, gates, fences, trees, signs and doorways in festive hydrangea blossoms, ribbons and colors to welcome guests and festival attendees to the community.
“Last year, we heard many comments on how inviting everyone’s decorations were to our visitors,” said Chan Weeks, executive director of Keep Douglasville Beautiful.
Keep Douglasville Beautiful will again be judging the outstanding efforts, so Weeks encourages folks to be creative.
Many local businesses carry supplies and artificial hydrangea blooms for decorations that can be done inexpensively. Entries should be submitted to Keep Douglasville Beautiful no later than Wednesday, May 27, at 5 p.m.
Entries can be emailed to info@KeepDouglasvilleBeautiful.org, sent via regular mail to P.O. Box 219, Douglasville, GA 30133 or dropped off at City Hall. Please include pictures of the decorations, the home or business’ address and contact information. Winners will be presented with an award ribbon and two tickets to the Hydrangea Festival Garden Tours.
KDB is also encouraging citizens to plant hydrangeas in their yards and at their businesses to promote and perpetuate the Hydrangea Festival. Many local businesses have hydrangea plants for sale this spring.
The Eighth Annual Penny McHenry will be held June 6-7 at locations throughout Douglas County.
