Paws For A Cause Saturday in VR

This cute pooch was competing in the 2013 "Paws for a Cause" event.

Plenty of paws will be parading for a cause on Saturday, April 25, during this year’s “Paws for a Cause” event, to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

In its fourth year, the dog show and parade will be held at Villa Rica’s Gold Dust Park, 646 Industrial Blvd, with registration starting at 9:30 a.m. Rain or shine the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Last year the event raised $1,600.

“We are raising money for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life by spending quality time with our fur babies and hopefully getting a few more fur babies adopted,” said Jessica Bond-Keese, the event organizer. “It is about ACS’s Relay for Life, but we are having fun and making it an entire community event in the meantime. We give the community a place to bring the family and have fun while standing up for a great cause.”

For those who are trying to capture the cuteness, get your cameras ready. Pooches will be vying for titles like Best Frisbee Catch, Fastest Sit, Best Trick, Best Dressed and Pet & Owner look alike.

Shawn Isaacs from The Wolf Internet Radio at UWG will emcee the event. Pony and horse rides will be available for a donation to Relay For Life. Evans BBQ will offer a sandwich, chips and a drink with all of the profit going to Relay for Life.

This year’s sponsors are Mirror Lake Animal Hospital and Celestial Canine Grooming Salon.

This year’s vendors include:

• Douglas County Humane Society

• Douglas County Animal Shelter

• Evans BBQ

• Clever Canidae (Dee Wilkie)

• Agape Hospice (they will have their therapy horses, Jessica Shaw)

• Origami Owl by Karen McCravy

• Loving Care Pet Cemetery
