Firefighters Recognition Day is Feb. 6

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners proclaimed Feb. 6 as Firefighters Recognition Day. Douglas County Fire Chief Scott Spencer was present for the proclamation and told commissioners that being a firefighter is a calling.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners proclaimed Feb. 6 as Firefighters Recognition Day. The proclamation was announced at the BOC meeting by the Douglas County Fire Chief Scott Spencer on Jan. 23.

The Firefighters Recognition Day Proclamation recognizes and honors the brave men and women who protect the life and property of the residents in Douglas County. Firefighters are responsible for responding to calls regarding a variety of emergencies while facing immeasurable risks and potential dangers during each incident. Yet in these dangerous and uncertain times, Douglas County firefighters exemplify the highest level of public service through their courage, commitment, and level of performance. During the BOC meeting Spencer said he believes the profession is truly a calling and is honored and privileged to lead the organization.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners encouraged all citizens to pay special tribute by displaying their support and appreciation to the firefighters and fire departments that contribute to the safety and well-being of the community.
