Main Street Douglasville and Keep Douglasville Beautiful celebrated Park(ing) Day for the first time ever on Friday, Sept. 15.

One parking space in front of Douglasville City Hall on Church Street was transformed into a temporary green space, also called a pocket park, for pedestrians to enjoy downtown from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the day.

Main Street Manager April McKown said that she hopes the event starts conversation of turning the temporary space into a permanent part of downtown. The first "PARK(ing) Day" event began in San Francisco back in 2005. The event has become popular in Georgia, McKown said.
