The Douglas County Tiger Band Booster Club invited Douglas County Schools Superintendent Trent North to their band booster meeting Monday night.

DC Tiger Band boosters wanted to honor North, for the part he played in allowing the school system to pay for all county marching band students' transportation to away games. Prior to this year, Marching Band Booster Clubs, across the county, have been funding their band transportation. Not only did North ask the school board for county bands transportation to away games, the county is now paying for transportation to away games for all other athletic teams as well. Traditionally, the football teams' transportation, were the only group, whose transportation was paid for.

Debbie Stone, president of the DC Tiger Band Boosters, states, "This is huge for us. Our budget for transportation is $10,000 a year. The Booster Club will still pay for the bands and color guards transportation to competitions. But our transportation to away football games is now paid for by the county."

Stone added, "As a taxpayer in this county, with an almost 6-foot-4 teenage son, who chooses to participate in band instead of football, I'm glad this decision has been made. It's only fair, that our tax money be spread around to support all of our students, in whatever school activity they choose."

The DC Tiger Band is in the middle of a campaign to raise money for new uniforms. A local church, West Metro Church of God, has made a generous donation to this great cause.

The DC Tiger Band needs $35,000 to purchase the new uniforms. So far they have raised $12,000. They are sponsoring DC Tiger Band Spirit Nights at Marcos Pizza on the corner of Douglas Boulevard and Bright Star Road, the First Wednesday of every month. Their next fundraiser is Wednesday, March 7. They are also having a Spirit Night at the Douglasville Carrabba's Italian Grill on Tuesday, March 20. At either of these events, you simply have to mention DC Tiger Band Fundraiser, for the band to get a percentage of all sales.

The DC Tiger Band Boosters would love to have other sponsors to help with this great call. If you are interested in donating funds to help them get their new uniforms, please contact the DC Tiger band director, Torre Goodson, at
