K-9 tracks down suspect in car theft

Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Clint Adams and K-9 Bando helped apprehend a car theft suspect Wednesday.

A man was arrested on Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing a running vehicle from a gas station parking lot.

Michael Woodall, 28, stole a Lincoln Town Car at the RaceTrac on Concourse Parkway off of Highway 5 at approximately 10 a.m, according to Douglasville Police Maj. J.R. Davidson.

The thief then traveled a few miles west before being arrested on John West Road off of Bright Star Road 40 minutes later. Officers from the Douglasville Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Clint Adams and his partner K-9 Bando were able to track down the suspect.

In the midst of the slick road conditions, the suspect had an accident after stealing the car.

"Yeah, as you can see in the photo, the vehicle hit a mailbox," Davidson said.

Even with temperatures below freezing in the county this week, the police department advises all drivers to not leave their cars unattended while running.

Woodall was charged with one count of theft by taking a motor vehicle, violation of probation, and obstruction of officers. Woodall remained in jail Thursday awaiting a bond hearing.
