A Douglasville convenience store clerk shot and wounded a suspect who attempted to rob him at gunpoint Wednesday night, according to police.

The Douglasville Police Department said in release that officers were dispatched to an armed robbery at the Chevron at 6590 Bankhead Highway in downtown Douglasville at 9:28 p.m. Wednesday.

The store clerk told the 911 operator the suspect pointed a handgun at him and he was able to retrieve his own handgun and shoot the suspect, according to police.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the suspect on the ground in front of the store suffering from a single gunshot wound. The suspect was transported by Douglas County EMS to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect’s condition wasn’t immediately known.

Police said the store clerk was not harmed in the incident and is cooperating with investigators.
