School starts in Douglas County on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and all local schools will be hosting events to get students ready to return to the classroom. 

The county’s five public high schools will have back-to-school “bashes” this week, while elementary and middle schools will host “sneak-a-peeks” on Monday, Aug. 3.

Elementary schools will be open for students and parents to visit and meet school staff from 4:30-6 p.m. on Aug. 3. Middle schools will be open from 5:30-7 p.m on Aug. 3.

Each high school will have its own version of the back-to-school bash between Thursday and Saturday. 

Alexander High’s fall bash will be Friday, July 31. Students will be able to take their yearbook/student I.D. picture, pick up schedules, look up bus routes, and pay for things like lockers, parking spaces and athletic passes.

Alexander seniors will have their bash first from 8:30-10 a.m., with juniors following from 10-11:30 a.m., sophomores from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and freshmen from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Chapel Hill High will hold an open house for freshmen on Thursday, July 30 from 5:30-8 p.m. and for all other grades on Friday, July 31 from 4-6 p.m.

Douglas County High will have its bash on Friday, July 31, with juniors and seniors going first from 7:30-11 a.m. and freshmen and sophomores from 4-5 p.m. 

Lithia Springs High is holding a Freshman Fiesta for the Class of 2019 Saturday, Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A freshman parent meeting will be held from 2-2:20 p.m. in the auditorium and a freshman expo fair will be held in the cafeteria from 2-3 p.m.

The back-to-school bash for grades 10-12 at Lithia will be Friday, July 31 with seniors going first from 8:30-10:30 a.m., juniors from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and sophomores from 2-4 p.m. Students will be able to pick up schedules, get information about meals, bus routes, student I.D.s and parking details and purchase lockers.

New Manchester High is holding its bash for all grades Friday, July 31, with seniors going first from 8:30-10 a.m., juniors and sophomores going from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and freshmen going from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

New Manchester is offering special packages for purchase at each grade level.

Seniors can pay $175 for a class shirt, dues, a prom ticket and yearbook. Dues are $30 without the senior package.

New Manchester juniors can pay $50 for a package that includes a visor and shirt or $125 for a visor, shirt and prom ticket.

New Manchester freshmen and sophomores can pay $25 for a package that includes a T-shirt.

Student parking at New Manchester is $50, lockers are $7, and a yearbook, which includes a free nameplate, is $65.
