Austin J. Hamrick, age 83, of Winston, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017. He was born in Douglas County, Georgia on October 29, 1934 son of the late Jack Glen Hamrick and the late Louise Tyson Hamrick. Austin was a 1953 graduate of Douglas County High School. Following high school, Austin was drafted into the United States Army and served as a Clerk. He began working as a meat packer and would retire from Kraft Foods as a machine operator. He also worked for Lockheed on the C-130. He was a member of Arbor Heights Bible Church.

Austin was an avid vegetable gardener and also enjoyed cooking and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Glen Frank Hamrick.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ernestine Carroll Hamrick of Winston, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law: Susan and Chris Harrah of Kennesaw, Georgia; granddaughters: Emma Harrah and Abby Harrah; sisters-in-law: Shirley Hamrick and Nell Mitchell; niece: Vickie Mitchell; nephews and spouses: Jeff & Clarissa Hamrick and Mike & Molly Mitchell; great-nephews and spouse: Jacob Hamrick and Nathan & Tiffany Mitchell; great-niece and spouse: Ruth & Steven DeBorde; great-great nieces and nephews and cousins.

The family received friends at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. until the service hour.

The Funeral Service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel in Douglasville, with Pastor Randy Smith officiating.

Interment followed in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors. Mike Mitchell, Jeff Hamrick, James Hamrick, Rodney Hendrix, Terry Rainwater, Ronnie Rainwater and Benny Llamazales serving as Pallbearers.
