Mr. Jerre Albert O’Neal, age 86, of Douglasville, GA passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018. A native of Douglasville, GA, he was born May 3, 1931. Mr. O’Neal proudly served in the United States Army. Jerre graduated from Georgia Tech University with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He was co-owner of O’Neals Clothing and later became owner of O’Neals Covered Wagon. Jerre was an active and faithful member of Douglasville First United Methodist Church since 1938. Among his many callings and positions at the church were Pastor Staff, co-founder of the preschool and Sunday School teacher as well as helping to build the Family Life Center. Jerre went on numerous mission trips to different countries including Mexico, Belize, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. He also had gone to many different Caribbean countries building churches and working on parsonages. He was the president of Jackleg Angels Ministries and started the Loving Hands Ministries. Jerre was also very active with the Master Masons and Shriners.
Preceding him in death is his son, Terry O’Neal; parents, William and Nell O’Neal as well as brothers Charles O’Neal and Bill O’Neal.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine O’Neal; daughter Leslie (Bob) Laird; son, Rocky (Lisa) Sikes; daughter, Darlene (Tony) Hammonds; grandchildren, Drew (Kristin) Olsen, Christopher Olsen, Sara Sikes, Morgan Sikes, Savana Sikes, Kristie (Evan) Butterworth, Corey Brown and Chandler Brown; great-grandchildren, Bailey Smith and Bryce Butterworth; as well as numerous other family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Douglas County Shelter Inc., PO Box 1337, Douglasville, GA 30133.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Douglasville First United Methodist Church at 1 o’clock p.m. After the service there will be a reception at the church.
