John Howard Day, age 97, of Douglasville passed away Tuesday, March 06, 2018. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 21, 1920 to the late Iverson Lee Day and the late Johnnie Lee Vinson Day. Howard was self-employed as a machinist and owned his own business, Atlanta Machine Works. He was avid in hunting and fishing. John was baptized at Beecherhill Baptist Church in 1960 but most recently enjoyed fellowship at New Covenant United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Prime Timers Senior Group which he created the name for the group.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Frances Booth Day; son: Howard Alan Day; brother: Hugh I. Day; sister: Rebecca Day Ozier; son-in-law: Ray Upshaw.
He is survived by daughter: Brenda Heath Upshaw; sons: Michael A. Day and his wife, Arlene, Marcus Anthony “Tony” Day and his wife, Leanne, Lee Iverson Day and his wife, Tina; daughter-in-law: Gail Day; grandchildren: Shannon McPherson and her husband, Mitch, Brett Heath, Michael Trenton Day, Todd Alan Day and his wife, Sue, Allison Day, Matthew Day, Dakota Day, Christina Hawkins and her husband, John, Brad Whitman, and Meghan Bautista; great-grandchildren: Connor Day, Colt Day, Olivia Hawkins, Nate Hawkins and Chase Harmon.
The family will receive friends at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Minister Harold Duvall and Mr. Joe Hamilton officiating.
Interment will be at Westview Cemetery on Monday March 12, 2018 at 11 a.m.
