Roy Roderic Rathel, age 60, of Douglasville, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on March 5, 1957, the son of the late E.C. Rathel and the late Patsy Miller Rathel. In addition to being a loving and caring husband and father, he was known to some as “The Roy” or “Roy Boy”. He was as a good man with non-conventional but traditional values. Roy was a spiritual person, a born-again Christian. He loved sports and music. He met Kathy Eison, the love of his life, at the age of 17. They married on October 15, 1977. Roy worked in the auto parts industry and most recently as manager for O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Douglasville.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years: Kathy Eison Rathel of Douglasville; daughter and son-in-law: Kelli and Anthony Lawshee of Powder Springs; son and daughter-in-law: Jason and Meghan Rathel of Lithia Springs; granddaughter: Maggie Louise Lawshee; brothers and sister-in-law: his twin, Ray Robert Rathel of Douglasville and Mark and Rebecca Rathel of Arkansas; sister and brother-in-law: Valrie and Rusty Thomas of Douglasville; parents-in-law: W.T. and Betty Eison of Douglasville; siblings-in-law: Debbie Lamp’l of Douglasville and Suzanne and Jimmy Wix of Winston; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 4-8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 2 p.m., at Hightower’s Memorial Chapel with Reverend Ken Hennesy and Reverend Moe Bruner officiating. Kelli Lawshee and Jason Rathel will deliver Eulogies.
Interment will follow in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with Anthony Lawshee, Robbie Miles, Ben Miles, Matthew Miles, Jacob Wix, Adam Wix, Bill O’Connor, and David Tucker will serve as Pallbearers.
