The death of a Carroll County Jail inmate has been ruled accidental and will not be presented to a grand jury, the Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Clifford Mintor, 34, of Bowdon was found unresponsive in his cell on March 18 and was later pronounced dead at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. Mintor’s death was a result of a hypertensive cardiovascular disease with the use of methamphetamine.

Mintor had been arrested for firing a gun toward his wife.

“Due to this case pending civil litigation, I don’t want to make comments regarding this particular case,” said Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Brad Robinson. “However, we try to identify any inmate that might be at risk and place them in an area where a jailer can do 15-minute checks. This may be done for various reasons, suicide risk and/or medical reasons.”
