Donald George Cantrell of Bremen passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. He was born in Carroll County, February 15, 1950, son of the late Frank Cantrell and Imogene Smith Cantrell.

Donald “Duck” Cantrell was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His life’s mission was to make someone laugh each day. He served as an Elder at Miller Academy Christian Church in Bremen.

Donald attended Mt. Zion High School and in 2003, Donald was voted one of the top players in Carroll County High School football history by the Times-Georgian. He loved to fish, hunt, garden and haul hay. Donald loved to watch the Georgia Bulldogs and the Lithia Springs High School basketball team where his son coaches.

In 2016 Donald retired from Diamond Crystal. Over the years, he also worked for Southwire, Sony, GM and US Can. Donald had a special place in his heart for Toys for Tots, organizing and making purchases each year for this organization. He was a recreational basketball coach in Bremen for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Hutcheson Cantrell of Bremen; children and their spouses, Jenny and Jake Keyes of Nashville, Tennessee, J.W. and Jessica Cantrell of Temple, Elise and Troy White of Dallas; grandchildren, Lauren Diss, Carrollton, Tyler Cantrell of Temple, Jaycie Keyes and Judson Keyes, both of Nashville, Tennessee; two brothers, Tommy and Judy Cantrell of Bowdon and Tim and Debbie Cantrell of Carrollton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Services will be Thursday, November 2, at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Minister Ron Goss and Minister Bill Gray officiating. Music will be furnished by LouAnne Hutcheson and June Goss. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jason Cantrell, Jeff Cantrell, Chad Cantrell, Russell Lynn, James Hutcheson, W. C. Hutcheson, Randy Buchanan and David Muse. The employees of Diamond Crystal will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Bremen City Cemetery.
