Hazel S. Roberts, age 84, of Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at her home.

Hazel was born on October 27, 1932, in the Hickory Level Community of Temple, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Spake and Elsie Howell Spake. She graduated from Villa Rica High School in 1950 and received a Degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia.

Hazel was a woman of faith, vivacious and full of life and laughter, was warm and caring and genuinely hospitable. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her presence will be deeply and profoundly missed by her family and community.

Her skills and abilities were a result of tireless hours of dedicated work and always continuing to learn. She went to work for Lockheed Martin and during that time earned a degree in Business Education, which led her along an amazing career path in real estate, insurance and tax preparation. She worked for Strickland Realty for many years and then became an independent, successful business owner with Hazel’s Tax Service.

Hazel was a very active “Senior Citizen” and defined that role for her generation. She enjoyed many hobbies to include fishing, dancing and spending time with her friends. She organized and attended the local senior citizen dance for 20 years. She became a member of the Eastern Star in 1956 serving as Past President and an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as President and Secretary. In 2009 Hazel was awarded “Volunteer of The Year” for her outstanding contribution and service to the Villa Rica Parks and Recreation Department.

She was Baptist by faith and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica since 1948 and also a member of the New Life Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Roberts (Vidal Cantu), Villa Rica, Georgia, and son, Hal Roberts (Lara Jackson), Villa Rica, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Monroe and Opal Spake, Villa Rica, Georgia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and John Ward, Temple, Georgia; grandchildren, Tammy Towler and Tina Sicher, Temple, Georgia. Jason and Sabrina Agan, Casey Agan, Haley Roberts, and Emma Roberts, all of Villa Rica, Georgia, Amanda Pace and Sara Cantu; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Austin Agan, Trevan, Marlee and Presley Agan, Riley Redding and Aurora Pace. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Harold Roberts, in 1988 and sister and brother-in-law, Ann and C. B. Walker.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 18, 2017, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, March 19, 2017, at 2 p.m. at J. Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Powell officiating. Monroe Spake, brother and former Mayor of Villa Rica and the Honorable Jeff Reese will serve as Eulogist.

Interment will follow the service at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens with Scott Walker, Dale Walker, Tommy Ward, Scott Roberts, David Boles, Vidal Cantu and James Black serving as pallbearers.
