Sammy Byrd Thompson of Waco passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at his residence. He was

born in Carroll County, September 19, 1933, son of the late Wordlaw Buren Thompson and Faye Harris Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was in the Timber Business and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He played for the Atlanta Crackers in 1955.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Thompson; three sisters, Sara Pope, Shirley Sharp and Anne Huckabe.

Survivors include his wife, Frances McGriff Thompson of Waco; sons, Gary Thompson of Waco, Chuck and Tammy Thompson of Bremen, Joe and Sarah Thompson of Monument, Colorado; five grandchildren, Taylor Thompson, Gary B. Thompson Jr., Whitney Thompson, Erica Thompson and Maren Thompson; two brothers, Tommy Thompson of Marietta and Martin and Barbara Thompson of Waco.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Services will be Sunday, December 3, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Benefield officiating. Other speakers will include grandchildren, Taylor Thompson, Whitney Thompson, Erica Thompson and a son, Joe Thompson. Music will be furnished by Gwenyth Miller and tape music. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Joey Sharp, David Sharp, Jordan Thompson, Mike Rice, James Thompson and Gary Thompson. Interment will follow in Five Point Baptist Church Cemetery.
