Mrs. Shirley Tate Whitmore, 80, of Carrollton, Georgia, died Monday, January 29, 2018. She was born September 21, 1937, in Moultrie, Georgia, the daughter of the late Vernon Tate and the late Christine Holder Tate.

She was a retired inspector with Sony Music and a faithful member of Holy Ground Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fonzie Whitmore; sister, Mary Wade; and granddaughter, Carolyn Ann Boswell.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Donna Boswell of Carrollton; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Kenneth McCollom of Bowdon, and Debbie and Tim Riggs of Hillsboro, Alabama; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Billy Wadsworth of LaGrange; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Thursday, February 1, at 3 p.m. at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton with the Rev. Keith Runels officiating. Those serving as pallbearers will be Tony Boswell, Vernon Boswell, Floyd Boswell, Robert “Red” Smith, Bill Parrish and Basil Synder. Burial will follow in Bethel East Church Cemetery in Graham, Alabama.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12 noon until the hour of service.
