Sonja Litton Dermo, age 79, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017.

The wife of the late Tony Dermo, Mrs. Dermo was born in Rome, Georgia, on February 16, 1938, the daughter of the late Horace and Pauline Nichols Litton.

She graduated from Pepperell High School in Lindale, Georgia, in 1955. Mrs. Dermo began her career in retail services, selling shoes in Rome, Georgia, at the age of 16. She was promoted to manager of the Rome Bell Brothers Shoe Store, the only single female manager out of 99 stores. After moving to Carrollton with her husband and family, she worked for Ben and Denva Perren at their shoe store and later at the ladies’ dress shop. She later managed Anne’s Ladies Apparel at First Tuesday Mall until opening her own beauty salon on Bankhead Highway. Revelation The Hair Place, a full service salon, opened in 1983 and served the community for almost 20 years. Upon Tony’s passing, Mrs. Dermo took over ownership duties for Dermo Realty, the oldest active real estate company in Carrollton.

Mrs. Dermo was a member and worked faithfully with the Food & Clothes Ministry at Christ Fellowship Church for many years. She returned to Oak Grove Baptist Church after the passing of her husband, Tony, where she was an active member.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Dermo.

She is survived by her children, Monica Dermo Wells (Andy), West Palm Beach, Florida, J. Mark Dermo (Carolyn), Sabrina Dermo Hartley (Dan) and Tony Dermo Jr. (Lucy), all of Carrollton; sister, Lavonia Kinsey of Armuchee, sister-in-law, Doris Litton of Lindale, Georgia; grandchildren, Amanda Wells Tuttle (Brian), Kara Dermo Chambliss (Woods), Heather Duffey (Britt), Rosina “Roxy” Johnson Robinson (Preston), Emily Boggs Beaty (David), Joshua Johnson, Cierra Hartley, Daniel Hartley, Brice Dermo and Brittney Dermo Daily (Duke); eight great-grandchildren, Olivia Tuttle, Kelli Tuttle, Jenna Boles, Fox Chambliss, Ella Chambliss, Laney Duffey, Emma Tanner and A.J. Tanner; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Bowman officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Tanner Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1136, Carrollton, GA 30117.
