Wynton Elvys “Chip” Payton Jr., age 70 ,of Carrollton passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017. He was born August 13, 1947, in Carroll County, Georgia, to the late Wynton Elvys Payton Sr. and Christine Dolores Carlton Payton.

He was a math teacher at Central Elementary for more than 20 years and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Mann Payton.

Survivors include his son, Trae Payton of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Ben Gonzalez of Carrollton, Georgia; sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Bill Garrett of Alpharetta, Georgia; and special friends, Theresa Stapler and John Nelson Stapler, both of Carrollton.

Chip was a talented musician who played the piano by ear. A lover of languages and mathematics, he was an inspirational teacher to countless students over the years.

Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at 11 a.m. from Carroll Memory Gardens. Those serving as pallbearers will be Trae Payton, John Stapler, Russell Garrett, Bill Garrett, Ben Gonzalez, and Darrell Stephens Jr.
