The Temple High School boys' basketball team opened Region 5-AA play on a positive note Tuesday night, knocking off Lamar County in a 50-48 nail-biter at THS.

Fresh off his all-tournament performance at the 42nd Annual Hilburn-Patterson Haralson County Invitational Tournament this past weekend, the Tigers (4-8, 1-0 Region 5-AA) were led by senior star Javin Boles, who erupted for a 38-point outburst against the Trojans (5-8, 0-1).

Temple returns to the court on Friday when it plays host to Spencer, followed by another home date with Mount Zion on Saturday.

In other prep basketball action from Tuesday:

Carrollton boys 53, Hiram 50: The Trojans (9-4, 2-2 Region 7-AAAAA) returned from the holiday tournament circuit by knocking off the Hornets (8-5, 3-1) in a league tussle on the road.

Marcellious Lockett led the charge with 16 points, followed by Tim Green with 10.

Carrollton hits Criswell Court on Friday night at 7:30 for a region clash with Cass.

No. 8 Carrollton girls 60, Hiram 21: The Lady Trojans (9-4, 3-1 Region 7-AAAAA) dominated the Lady Hornets in the region road win by placing four scorers in double figures.

Erial Daniel led the way with 16 points, while Elexus Bell added 15, Ansley Barge finished with 13 and De'Mauri Flournoy chipped in 10.

No. 7 Haralson County girls 71, Spring Garden (Ala.) 52: The Rebelettes (10-0) kept the momentum going strong from their tournament title run over the past weekend with a 19-point win across the state line, getting 20 points from Alexis Boykin, while Indiya Smith and Claire Robinson scored 17 points apiece.

Carrollton JV boys 51, Hiram 27: The Trojans overcame a slow start and took control of the contest in the third quarter to pull away with the double-digit victory.

Jamisen Winters led Carrollton with 12 points, while Jordan Harrison added 11.
