The Villa Rica High School softball team captured a 5-4, nine-inning region road win at Kell on Wednesday night, using a huge double play from Madi Langford in the final frame.

The freshman outfielder made a diving catch in foul territory, popped up onto one knee and gunned down the international tie-breaker runner at second to clear the bases.

After building a 3-0 advantage, the Lady Wildcats (16-5, 11-2 Region 7-AAAAA) allowed Kell (13-4, 11-3) to battle back in the ballgame and eventually tie it up at 3-all, but VR held on in the extra frames for the huge region triumph.

Abbey Gamble earned the win in the circle, tossing all nine innings and allowing three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

Offensively, Izzy Rohr (3-for-4, 2B) and Gamble (3-for-5, 2B, RBI) led the charge.
