The Central High School boys' basketball team avenged a setback to Mount Zion from a week ago by pulling out an 83-74 home victory Thursday night on Cowart Court.

Ignited by a 45-point eruption from senior guard Josh McClendon, the Lions improve to 7-2 on the year. Along with the big night from McClendon, Tyree Blocker scored 13 points and D.J. Clayton added 12.

C.J. Ackles scored 25 points to pace the Eagles (5-4), followed by T.J. Cagle and Iaan "Mike Mike" Cousin with 17 points apiece and Tyriese Farley with 12.

Central returns to action at the Chattooga Christmas Tournament on Dec. 27-29, while the Eagles are off until Dec. 28 when they travel to Model.

Central girls 48, Mount Zion 29: The Lady Lions (6-3) also went into the holiday break on a positive note behind the 19-point home win, receiving an 11-point effort from Janae Jackson, followed by six-point showings from both Haley Luke and Nyah Houston.

The Lady Eagles (1-10) were led by Iyana Mann with 11 points, while Jana Crews scored six and Cassidy Brown finished with five.

Central next hits the court for the 42nd Annual Hilburn-Patterson Haralson County Invitational Tournament on Wednesday against the host Rebelettes. MZ is off until Dec. 28 when it travels to Model.

Prep Wrestling

The Carrollton High School wrestling team got off to a strong start on the opening day of the Dariel Daniels Duals hosted by Troup in LaGrange.

The Trojans recorded a 5-0 showing Thursday, knocking off Troup 'B' (64-18), Jones County (64-18), East Coweta (54-27), Mount Zion (51-29) and Holy Innocents' (54-21).

Carrollton returns to the mat today, facing Northgate, Troup and Central on the final day of the event.
