The Carrollton High School wrestling team played host to a quad-match on Wednesday evening and knocked off trio of opponents in convincing fashion for some midweek domination.
The Trojans rolled away with victories over Paulding County (73-6), Sandy Creek (60-0) and Cedartown (69-12) in a tuneup before heading off to the Cleveland Duals in Cleveland, Tennessee, on Saturday.
Going undefeated on the evening for the Trojans were Luke Frost, Scott Loftin, Nate Butler, Brent Parivechio, Luke Sawyer, Grant McKinley, Jake Walsingham, Hunter Cantoral, Chase Sippola, Brock Bibbee and Daniel Dukes.
Mount Zion boys 88, Trion 81: The Eagles (1-0, 1-0 Region 6-A) earned a seven-point victory in the region battle and season opener against the Bulldogs on Tuesday night led by the 1-2 punch of guards C.J. Ackles and T.J. Cagle.
Ackles scored 29 points with four rebounds and three assists, while Cagle poured in 25 points with two rebounds and two steals. Tyriese Farley also had a strong night with 17 points and nine boards and Iaan "Mike Mike" Cousin posted eight points and eight rebounds.
The Eagles travel to North Cobb Christian tonight for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against the No. 5 team in the Class A Private state rankings.
Trion girls 65, Mount Zion 52: The Lady Eagles (0-4, 0-1 Region 6-A) were led by Iyana Mann with 14 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, while Cassidy Brown added nine points and three rebounds, Alyssa Ware had seven points and four rebounds, Jana Crews chipped in six points and six assists, Kirsti Rogers scored six points and Jordan Farley finished with four points and seven rebounds.
