It was a win nearly one month in the making, but it proved to be a critical victory for the Villa Rica High School boys' basketball team on Wednesday evening.

Having to travel over an hour to Rome to play the final 4:42 of a suspended game due to a gas leak on Jan. 6, the Wildcats finished off the Wolves for a 54-46 triumph.

J.J. Franklin led the offense with 14 points, followed by Latrell Swanigan with 12.

On Tuesday night, Villa Rica (20-1, 13-1 Region 7-AAAAA) won a 67-60 road contest over Paulding County, where Swanigan poured in 19 points, while Franklin added 18, Micah Hodges posted 12 and Phillip Zachery chipped in 10.

The Wildcats face Rome again — this time in a full, 32-minute affair — on Friday for Senior Night at 7:30 p.m. and then wrap up the regular season with a weather make-up against Hiram on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
