Derrick Mahone/Douglas County Sentinel Lithia Springs senior pitcher Payton Welch has 13 strikeouts in 11 innings as the Lions head into the postseason at Chamblee.

Lithia Springs is very familiar with its Class AAAAA first-round opponent.

The Lions open their best-of-three series with a doubleheader at Chamblee today.

Chamblee comes into the contest with a 20-5-1 record with that tie and a loss coming against the Lions, who are the 19-9-1 and the No. 3 seed from Region 6-AAAAA.

Beside trying to avenge that Sept. 23 loss to Lithia Springs, Chamblee also has another motivation coming into the 2 p.m. contest.

The Bulldogs can give third-year Coach Alan Loper his 50th career victory with a series win. The Lady Bulldogs have improved by four wins each of the last two season and the 20 wins this season is the most since a 22-8 year directed by Elizabeth Spaulding in 2001.

Here is a look at the other playoff games involving county teams.

Dalton at Alexander: The Cougars head back to the postseason as the Region 5-AAAAAA champs for the second straight year. Dalton comes into the cost having lost its last two games to Creekview (8-2) and Harrison (10-0). Alexander is 21-8 overall heading into the postseason with catcher Faith Shirley leading the way. The Georgia Southern commit has a .582 average with 47 RBI and 36 runs. She also has seven home runs on the year. Junior infielder Georgia Blair has a .479 average with 44 RBI and has scored 36 runs with a county-leading 10 home runs. Lexi Chitwood has also scored 36 runs.

LaFayette at Chapel Hill: Perhaps no team enters the state playoffs in Class AAAA as hot as the Panthers, who are on a 12-game winning streak. Last week, Chapel Hill clinched its fifth straight region title with a sweep of defending state champion Central in the Region 5-AAAA championship game. The Ramblers, the fourth seed from Region 6-AAAA, are 17-10 overall. LaFayette is 4-9 in its last 13 games, including losing its last contest 6-2 to Ridgeland. The Panthers are led at the plate by Paige Vincent and Savanna Sikes. Vincent, a junior catcher, is hitting a team-leading .473 with 27 RBI while Sikes, a senior shortstop, has a .463 average with 32 RBI. The Auburn commit has also scored 35 runs. Sophomore Taylor Middlebrook has a .444 average with 26 RBI and 29 runs scored.

Douglas County at Allatoona: The Tigers have struggled this season with a 4-15 record, but finished fourth in the Region 5-AAAAAA Tournament to clinch a playoff spot. Douglas County entered the region tournament with a .260 batting average. Zenaida Diaz leads the Tigers with a .535 average with 10 RBI. Allatoona comes into the contest with a 21-6 record after having won its last five games. The Buccaneers finished the regular season as the Region 6-AAAAAA runner-up to Creekview. However, Allatoona defeated Creekview 6-4 in the winner’s bracket to advance to the region tournament finals. The Buccaneers got a come-from-behind win against Creekview in the finals for a 3-2 walk-off win to claim the region championship. The region championship was Allatoona’s second and its first since 2013 as a Class AAAAA program.

Lithia Springs at Chamblee: Chamblee has got 3-2 since it lost 11-3 to Lithia Springs on Sept. 23 at the Decatur Bulldogs Bash Tournament. The Bulldogs other losses have come to St. Pius, Arabia Mountain (twice) and Holy Innocents’. As a team, Chamblee is hitting .330 with 266 runs scored. The Bulldogs have 10 players with multiple RBI on the season and has hit two home runs.
