Brittany Truitt didn’t get the individual Peach Belt Conference title she was hoping for but the Villa Rica native was part of team history.
Truitt, a senior at North Georgia, was part of the cross country’s program’s first conference championship as she finished runner-up at the race on Saturday at Fort Benning.
The former Alexander standout had a time of 17 minutes, 31 seconds to finish runner-up and become the 11th runner in conference history to become a four-time all-conference honoree.
There were six other Nighthawk runners that made all-conference. by finishing in the top-15 in the championship race.
“I was pretty pleased at the race,” Truitt said. “Getting the conference win for the team was very exciting.”
In the process, Truitt shattered the North Georgia 5K record by 22 seconds as the Nighthawks scored 42 points, defeating runner-up Augusta by 10 points.
“It is really exciting and made for a crazy, fun day for the team,” Truitt said.
Nighthawks coach Tom Williams was also named Coach of the Year for the first time in his career in a vote of the league's head coaches taken after the race.
It next for Truitt and her teammates is the NCAA Div. II Southeast Regional meet on Nov. 4 in Charlotte, N.C., which will b hosted by Wingate University.
