Derrck Mahone/Douglas County Sentinel Junior Miles Richardson and the Chapel Hill defense will try to contain top-ranked Cartersville and its high-powered offense in a Region 5-AAAA contest on Friday.

Riding the confidence of a two-game Region 5-AAAA winning streak, Chapel Hill is now faced with its toughest task of the season.

The Panthers play at top-ranked and two-time defending state champion Cartersville today in a region contest.

Cartersville features one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects in Trevor Lawrence, who has committed to Clemson.

The senior quarterback is also on the verge of a couple state records heading into the 7:30 pm. contest.

Lawrence is within 105 passing yards and six passing touchdowns of breaking the Georgia career records of 13,077 and 155 held by former Gainesville High standout Deshaun Watson. Watson is now the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans.

Lawrence has thrown six touchdowns in a game four times this season.

Last week’s win over Sandy Creek, he showed a different aspect of his game with a 68-yard run on a read-option play.

Alexander at Creekside: The Cougars will be trying to bounce back from only their second loss of the season. Alexander is still trying to keep pace on locking down a top playoff seed to host a first round game. Creekside is winless on the season under first year coach Maurice Dixon, a graduate of the Fairburn school.

New Manchester at Langston Hughes: This game features two of Region 5-AAAAAA’s top rushers in seniors Christian Royalston and A.J. Taylor. Royalston of Hughes has taken over the top spot in the region with his 1,113 yards while Taylor sits in third place with 1,074 yards.Taylor’s teammate Vanquez Wheeler has 502 yards to sit at fifth on the region rushing list. Langston Hughes is still alive in the playoff race and has to win the next two games to secure a spot.
