The Landmark Christian School War Eagles started off the 2013 season with a big road victory over the Calvary Day Cavaliers by a score of 30-22.

The young War Eagles team found a way to win despite starting eight new starters on offense and seven new starters on defense.

Offensively, senior running back Darius Smith scored three touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards in the victory while sophomore quarterback Stockton McGuire added a rushing TD of his own in addition to completing 15 passes for 133 yards. He also kicked a 33-yard field goal to put the game out of reach late.

Junior wide receiver Sam Dobbs was the top target of McGuire on the night as he hauled in nine catches for 87 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball it was some familiar faces shutting down the Cavalier offensive attack after they had some early success on Friday night.

Four year starter and pre-season All State  senior linebacker William Higbie was the leading tackler on the night and forced a fumble, while fellow captain and senior defensive back Nolan Bryant was not far behind in tackles recorded. He also intercepted a pass and deflected two others.

Junior defensive end Will Yancey fueled the defensive line attack that put pressure on the opposing quarterback all night.

This upcoming Friday night the War Eagles take their show on the road once again as they face their second consecutive 2012 playoff opponent in Athens Christian School Golden Eagles.
