Erin Fegans' last cross country meet didn't exactly go as she had planned.
Although the Douglasville native helped lead Landmark Christian to its fourth straight Class A private-school championship, the sophomore didn't have her best race.
She will get a chance to atone for that this weekend at the prestigious Foot Locker Cross Country Championships South Regional in Charlotte.
Fegans and three other runners with ties to the county will participate in the meet at McAlpine Park.
Also running in the event will be Alexander seniors Koi and Mekhi Williams, Austin Muse and Brenda Ayuk.
Last year as a freshman, Fegans finished 102 at the race.
"It's the last race of the season, and I'm very excited," Fegans said. "I want to be in the top-50 this year."
At the state meet earlier this month, Fegans went 20 minutes, eight second to place fifth overall.
She is hoping for a better time on Saturday.
"I have to get out fast because there are a lot of talented runners," she said. "There will be so many people there so I have to get out fast in the first 800 meters. You will be surrounded by so many fast runners."
Last year, Fegans' sister, Nicole, was one of the top competitors. Nicole, now a freshman at Georgia Tech, placed fourth overall as the highest finisher from the state.
It was good enough to earn an all-expense paid trip to San Diego to run in the national meet. Nicole placed seventh in California to earn All-American status.
"I really hope to get a good time and finish my last cross country race strong," Erin said.
She said having Ayuk there will be a motivation.
"It is really cool for other Douglas County runners to be North Carolina," Fegans said.
Ayuk went 19:42 at the state meet in Carrollton to place third overall. As a team, Alexander finished fourth.
The state's reigning 800-meters track champion, Ayuk recently signed with Kennesaw State.
Koi Williams finished a time of 16:34 to place as runner-up in the Class AAAAAA meet. Twin brother, Mekhi, went 16:36 to finish fourth as the Cougars took fourth place overall. Muse went 17:18 to finish 16th overall on the Carrollton course.
Mekhi also signed with Kennesaw State last week.
