Alexander boys had an outstanding season that resulted in a Region 5-AAAAAA title and top seeding in the postseason. The Cougars would fall to Alpharetta in the opening round of the playoffs.

Before sustaining a season-ending injury with a broken femur bone, Matthew Acha-Morfaw was one of the team and region’s most potent offensive players.

He had a hat-trick performance in a key win against Douglas County that helped position them for the region title.

Acha-Morfaw has been chosen the Douglas County Sentinel Player of the Year for his effort in leading the Cougars.

Here is a look at the all-county team.

Carlos Avila, Lithia Springs: the senior played the midfield position for the Lions.

Oscar Barrera, Alexander: The junior goalkeeper originally was the backup before a season-ending injury moved him to the top spot. He had four shutouts during region play, and finished with a 0.87 goals against average.

Axel Blancho, New Manchester: The sophomore goalie gave up only 22 goals in 15 matches. He had five shutouts to help the Jaguars contend for a playoff spot.

Jorge Isodore, New Manchester: The senior winger had five goals and a team-leading 14 assists.

Eduardo Lopez, Douglas County: The senior was an attacking midfielder for the Tigers, who reached the state playoffs. He finished with 16 assists and played every minute of each match.

Matthew Acha-Morfaw, Alexander: The Region 5-AAAAAA Player of the Year finished with 11 goals before a season-ending leg injury. The sophomore had a hat trick against Douglas County.

Evan Nabors, Alexander: the center-back was a consistent player on both offense and defense. The all-region performer scored four goals on the season and was a MVP at the Divarsity All-Star Game. Was also an all-county kicker this past football season.

Ricky Noel, Douglas County: Led the Tigers with 18 goals and finished with eight assists. The senior signed to play at Shaw University in North Carolina.

Bryan Pichardo, New Manchester: Team just missed out on its first state playoff appearance. The senior striker had nine goals and was in on 12 assists. He was named to the all-region team.

Arturo Valdes, Alexander: The junior midfielder was the Cougars’ leading scorer with 14 goals. He had a good awareness of the game.

Colton Wandelt, Alexander: The junior was one of the team’s captains. He finished the season with 10 goals.
