Special Photo/Reggie Davis Douglas County coach Johnny White led the Tigers to a 10-2 record and No. 9 rankings in the final poll.

The Tigers opened the season with a lot of optimism after returning several key players from a team that went 6-4 in Johnny White’s first season.

Douglas County didn’t disappoint as it finished with a 10-2 record and as Region 5-AAAAAA runner-up.

It was the program’s first 10-win season since 2005, as the Tigers finished ranked No. 9 in the final Georgia Sports Writers Association poll. It was also the first since the 2005 season.

Douglas County only regular-season loss was to two-time region champion Mays in what decided the region championship.

The Tigers defeated Dalton in the first round of the playoffs, a first since the 2005 season, before losing 24-21 to Alpharetta on the road in the second round. Tigers senior Braelen Oliver, who signed with Minnesota, was named the region player of the year.
