Alexander’s 23-20 win over visiting Carver-Atlanta provided coach Matt Combs with a milestone win. The victory was the 43rd of Matt Combs’ career as the Cougars coach, giving him the most wins by a football coach in the school’s 32-year history. Combs, in his eighth season at the helm at Alexander, surpassed Jim Clay, who racked up 42 wins during his tenure as coach from 1993-98. Combs is the longest tenured coach in the programs surpassing Vernon Wilkes this season. Evan Nabors punched a 28-yard field goal through the uprights with 4:02 left in the game to break a 20-20 tie and give Alexander a 23-20 lead that would hold. Alexander would finish the season with a 6-5 record and fourth place finish in the Region 5-AAAAAA standings. The Cougars lost to Harrison in the first round of the state playoffs.
