Landmark Christian School traveled to Fayetteville over the weekend to compete in the Region 5-A Area 3 Private Championship meet. On a cold and windy morning, the Lady War Eagles took first place in the girls 5K, while the War Eagles placed second in the boys race.
The Landmark girls ran away from the competition, totaling 21 points. Galloway finished a distant second with 58 points, followed by Paideia (76), Atlanta international (102), Our Lady of Mercy (117), Eagles Landing (144), Mount Vernon (204), and Strong Rock (218).
The Lady War Eagles took the top three individual spots. Kathryn Foreman, feeling better after recovering from an injury, won the race with a time of 18:33.37. She was followed by Nicole Fegans (18:37.73) and Sarah Foreman (19:09.53). Rounding out the scoring for Landmark were Mary Kellison Throne (6th, 20:53.43) and Lindsey Biggar (9th, 21:49.87).
The Landmark boys finished with 53 points, placing behind only Galloway at 24 points. Rounding out the team scoring were Paideia (75), Atlanta International (115), Our Lady of Mercy (118), Mount Vernon (172), Eagles Landing (196) and Strong Rock (211).
Galloway’s Reilly Friedman won the individual competition with a time of 15:28.19. Austin Taylor led the War Eagles with a third place finishing time of 17:22.47. Also placing for Landmark were Seth Cruver (7th, 17:51.85), Kermit Jackson (10th, 18:14.80), Mark Humphries (12th, 18:25.93) and Micah Burdette (21st, 18:48.09).
Kathryn Foreman, Sarah Foreman, Fegans, and Taylor are all Douglas County residents.
The area race was hosted by Our Lady of Mercy at Heritage Christian Church. The state meet will be hosted at in Carrollton on Saturday.
