Special teams, offense, and defense each found a way to score touchdowns for the No. 8 Single-A ranked Landmark War Eagles as they defeated AAA opponent Josey High School by a margin of 55-20. last Friday night.

The win moved the War Eagles to a 4-0 start for the second consecutive season. The 2014 team currently sits No. 2 in the GHSA private power rankings thanks to victories this season over larger schools from the AA, AAA, and AAAAA classifications.

This past Friday night, on the road, just eight seconds into the game, Landmark found themselves with a 7-0 advantage after sophomore DJ Brown raced the opening kickoff return for a TD and the War Eagles would never look back.

The special teams unit also blocked a punt for the third time this season.

Offensively, sophomore running back Lofton Tidwell scored four touchdowns on the night and didn’t discriminate as two of them came on the ground and two of them came after long touchdown receptions. Tidwell finished the game with over 175 all-purpose yards, with just 15 touches in the two and a half quarters he played.

The War Eagle offense used a balance attack as they racked up over 400 yards of total offense. Junior quarterback Stockton McGuire rushed for a TD and completed seven passes on the night including the two TD tosses to Tidwell. Senior fullback Drew McMurrain also punched in his first rushing TD of the season.

The defensive secondary continued their ball hawking ways as they intercepted a pass for the fourth consecutive game this season. Senior Ben Baggett picked up his second interception of the year, while sophomore Brandon Stone picked off the quarterback for the first time, and returned the ball for a Landmark touchdown to open up the third quarter scoring.

The defensive line rotation of senior McMurrain, senior Will Yancey, junior Taylor Snyder, and

sophomore Dylan Gabrielson wrecked havoc in the offensive back field all night and held Josey to under 50 yards rushing for the game.

This upcoming Friday nigh, the War Eagles look to continue the impressive resume as they host a showdown of unbeaten teams when AAA No. 8 ranked Central-Carrollton (4-0) travels to Fairburn to give Landmark its stoutest test of the season thus far.
