The Landmark War Eagles continued their early season winning streak as they improved their record to 3-0 with a 27-21 victory over AA opponent Pace Academy.

Junior running back, Cody Chastain recovered the opening kick-off for the War Eagles to set the tone for the night with an early turnover.

The running trio of senior defensive back/running back Ben Baggett, junior quarterback Stockton McGuire, and sophomore running back/defensive back Lofton Tidwell combined to lead the War Eagles rushing attack to 308 yards on the ground behind a dominating offensive line.

McGuire scored the first touchdown on the ground, followed by a Baggett short scamper into the end zone before Tidwell took over the game, scoring the final two TD’s of the night.

Defensively, Landmark used a bend but don't break mentality to keep the high powered Pace offense out of the end zone the majority of the night. The War Eagles used very physical tackling all night long to force turnovers on downs and forced a fumble late in the third quarter.

The defensive line of Seniors Drew McMurrain and Will Yancey, along with Junior Taylor Snyder and Sophomore Dylan Gabrielson, put pressure on the Pace quarterback all night and lived in the backfield. Senior linebacker Titus Creamer and two way players Tidwell and Baggett were the leading tacklers on the night for the War Eagles.

Landmark will get a chance to rest up and fine tune some things with a bye week this Friday night before going on the road on Sept. 18 and taking on Josey High School. Josey is the third consecutive higher classification opponent for Landmark this season.
