The Landmark War Eagles dropped their second game of the season last Friday night after suffering a defeat to Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, 35-28. The game was exciting from start to finish.
It was a back and forth battle as the War Eagles traded scores with the visiting Chargers and no team held a lead of more than seven points all night long.
Landmark went up14-7 at halftime, but Eagle’s Landing came out and scored on the first play of the second half to tie the game up. The Chargers eventually scored the game winning TD late in the fourth quarter after a penalty on fourth down kept the drive going for the visitors from McDonough.
The win moved Eagle’s Landing Christian School to 2-0 in the region and a tie for 1st place, while the host War Eagles dropped to 1-1 in Region 5-A play and 6-2 overall.
Offensively, sophomore running back Lofton Tidwell continued to be the spark for the Landmark attack as he racked up over 200 all-purpose yards on 25 touches from scrimmage. Tidwell rushed for 178 yards and two TD’s on the night to keep the War Eagles in the game.
Junior quarterback Stockton McGuire proved his legs are dangerous once again as he scored two
rushing TD’s and added 87 rushing yards on the night.
On senior night at Landmark, it was the three defensive seniors that helped the War Eagles bottle up the high powered offense of the Chargers much of the night. Other than giving up a couple of big plays and great starting field position for the opponents, the War Eagles defense looked as though they were not outmatched by the much bigger opponents from Eagle’s Landing.
Senior defensive back Ben Baggett and senior linebacker Titus Creamer each had over 10 tackles in the game, while senior defensive lineman Drew McMurrain was the leader on the defensive line, spending a lot of the night in the opponents backfield.
This upcoming Friday night, the War Eagles look to rebound quick and continue their quest for a GHSA playoff berth as they travel to take on the Strong Rock Patriots in another region 5-A contest.
