Two Douglas County natives have been chosen to participate in the second annual Elite Junior Classic, which will be held Dec. 27-29 at McEachern High School.
Landmark’s Christian McGuire will anchor the North Team at quarterback. McGuire has been the War Eagle starting QB since his freshman year and also participates in cross county and basketball.
Landmark finished the 2014 season with an 8-3 record. The War Eagles placed second in the 5-A region with a 3-1 record, falling only to Eagles Landing, who finished first. Landmark averaged a region high 38 points per game. They lost in the first round of the Single-A Private School state tournament, falling to Mount Pisgah Christian, 38-14.
New Manchester wide receiver Tyler Simmons also made the North Team. The Jaguars reached the playoffs for the first time this season and Simmons was a key part of the run. He had 28 receptions for 490 yards and four touchdowns. He also had two TD’s on kickoff returns.
The Jags finished the 2014 season with a 6-5 record. They placed fourth in Region 5-5A, averaging 28 points per game on offense. New Manchester lost to Creekside in the first round of the 5A state playoff tournament, 44-27.
The Elite Junior Classic provides upcoming seniors the chance to get noticed in front of top recruiting services and the media. The All-Star game, which is held on the 29th, will air live on television across the South. The game will also be streamed online at ScoreAtl.com and EliteJuniorClassic.com.
The event includes a team dinner on Dec. 27, an afternoon of bonding with complimentary unlimited video games and bowling at Stars & Strikes on Dec. 28, a community service project, also on Dec. 28, an 8th Grade All-Star game at McEachern at 10 a.m. on Dec. 29, and finally the Elite Junior Classic All-Star game at 1 p.m. on Dec. 29.
