Before teams in the county start to prepare for their upcoming area tournaments, there is still one piece of unsettled business to attend to.

On Saturday, Chapel Hill will host the Douglas County Volleyball Championship as county teams battle for bragging rights and supremacy.

The one-day tournament starts at 8 a.m. with the championship match scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

“This is a big deal,” Chapel Hill coach Jeremy Anderson said. “Winning the county was one of the goals we set at the beginning of the season.”

Senior Allison Price agreed.

“I know everyone is really excited about the county tournament,” said Price, the team’s starting setter. “I think with all the seniors we have on the team, and we are super close, it will make for an exciting tournament.”

Chapel Hill is coming into the tournament on a roll after defeating Central-Carrollton and Cedartown earlier in the week. The players are hoping this momentum will carry through on Saturday at the county championship.

“I hope this has set the tone for us on Saturday,” Price said. “We want to continue our progress.”

Last season, Douglas County defeated Alexander for the county title.

Because the majority of the teams in the county are not in the same area, Anderson said it will make for an interesting tournament this season. Only New Manchester, Douglas County and Alexander play in the same area this season.

“I know this will make it more exciting for the teams,” Anderson said. “In the past, we would have played everybody by not and would kind of know what to expect. We have six seniors on the team and they all really want to win it this year. There are going to be some exciting games.”

Because several of the players on the teams play club volleyball, there is some familiarity among the teams.

“We know some of the players through club,” Chapel Hill senior Jackie Williams said. “But you never know what is going to happen until you play.”
