Four men were arrested Monday night after shots were fired in a Villa Rica subdivision. No one was injured and police are still investigating the shooting.
At 9:30 p.m., Villa Rica police responded to reports of shots fired on Melleray Court, in the Waterford subdivision. Witnesses told police that a car had driven by with someone firing two shots at a group of people standing outside a house.
Police stopped a car matching witness descriptions on Hickory Level Road. In the car they allegedly found a .38 caliber pistol, which matched shell casings found on Melleray Court.
The four Villa Rica residents in the car, Charles Jamie Cochran, Ryan Michael Robinson, Samuel Marquice King, all 18; and a 16-year-old were arrested. The three 18-year-olds were charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and being party to the crime of aggravated assault; all three were sent to the Carroll County jail. The 16-year-old was charged with aggravated assault and his case is pending in Juvenile Court.
A shot was fired at the car by someone standing outside the house, according to police.
“As the investigation continued, it was determined that after the two shots were fired from the vehicle toward the residence, that one of the persons standing outside returned fire by firing one shot in the direction of the vehicle,” said Villa Rica Capt. Brian Camp in a statement.
Although no one was hurt, a bullet did go into a neighbor’s garage, ricochet off a truck parked in the garage, and lodge in a door leading into the house.
The cause of the shooting is still under investigation, but police said it may have been the result of an ongoing argument. Camp said the attack might have stemmed from a fight last week. Additional arrests are possible, said Camp, as are additional charges against the four men arrested Monday.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Investigator Danny Shores at 770-459-5149 or the Crime Stoppers line at 770-838-7867.
