The Alexander High School soccer boosters, along with the choral and JROTC departments, invite Douglas County residents and AHS alumni to a memorial service in honor of AHS graduates who have fallen in service to our great country. The service will take place on March 1 on the school athletic field between soccer games. The AHS girls varsity soccer team will play New Manchester High School at 5:30 p.m. at the Alexander stadium. The tribute will start at 7 p.m. immediately following the girls game. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the AHS boys soccer game will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The following Alexander High School alumni will be remembered:

• Staff Sgt. Joshua “Josh” Bowden of Villa Rica was assigned to the 242nd Ordnance Battalion (EOD), 71st Ordnance Group (EOD), Fort Carson, CO. He died Aug. 31, 2013, in Ghazni, Afghanistan.

• Lance Cpl. Scott “Boots” Harper of Winston was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC. He died Oct. 13, 2011, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

• Army Sgt. Thomas Strickland of Douglasville was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 108th Armor Regiment, Georgia Army National Guard, Calhoun, GA. He died Aug. 15, 2005, in Iraq.
